Bread and Jam for Frances
1/701 Glenferrie Road, Hawthorn
Sometime on Monday night I told myself I had to travel to Hawthorn for brunch after Tuesday business was settled. There were three strong contenders, but evidently this cafe won out over the others.
Silly me got off at Hawthorn station and walked the distance from the edge of Riversdale/Glenferrie Road here instead. Imagine my dread when I finally reached 701 and saw no cafe in sight D: A little search on their website alerted me that they were behind the bookstore/down Linda Crescent, which quickly quelled the panic.

Looks like they changed the menu before I could try their corn fritters. Nevermind, Corn and Sweet Potato Hash was close enough. I thought it was a well balanced dish. Textures ranged from the crunchy, crumbed casing, the supple and juicy asparagus to the weak interior of mildly sweet filling. For those picky about their eggs - they were fine here. A gentle stab unveiled a golden river of yolk…I need to learn to entice you with egg porn.
T’s caramel tart.
Berry crumble. Buttery pastry, tangy blackberries and the wonder that is flaked almonds. Wonderful.
