The Daily Grind @ Pratt
8 Pratt Street, Moonee Ponds
On one of the rare occasions I find myself in a new area, the natural thing to do is seek out a cafe to enjoy a nice brunch at. While I had done my research this time round, the proximity of The Daily Grind @ Pratt and the large windows allowing a good peek at the inviting interior changed my destination.
I had fair hopes; unfortunately the service was mediocre, considering the few patrons there at the time, and on numerous occasions we were ignored by the waitress.
I ordered the vegetable stack, consisting of layers of roasted vegetables upon a corn fritter, topped with a well-poached egg. The fritter was incredibly bland, without even a hint of sweetness from the corn kernels. While the feta and pesto provided some sort of compensation in flavours, ultimately it was still unappetising.
The trouble with one bad experience is it’s usually such a deterrent for returning that you really don’t want to risk double checking if it was just a one-off; I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt.
